Biography

Eric Kim began playing the violin at the age of five. He attended Anglican Church Grammar School on a full music scholarship, serving as Music Captain, and has since competed in numerous eisteddfods as both a soloist and chamber musician.

He spent several years with the Queensland Youth Symphony, including a 2023 tour to Singapore and Europe that took him to the Musikverein in Vienna. He has since been a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra's National Music Camp in 2023, 2024 and 2026, and its flagship orchestra in the 2024 and 2026 seasons, and was invited to play with the 2026 Orchestra Project Orchestra in Sydney under conductor Fabian Russell.

In 2023, Eric was awarded the A.E. Smith violin loan prize as part of the QSO Young Instrumentalist Prize, before winning First Prize outright in 2024. He made his solo debut with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra at QPAC in 2025, at the age of 16, and returned that year as a guest artist for the Young Instrumentalist Prize competition.

Alongside his orchestral work, Eric performs extensively in chamber music through the UQ chamber music program and is currently a member of The IncrediBows string quartet, coached by Tim Li. The quartet won the national 'Strike a Chord' chamber music competition, leading to performances at the Tyalgum Music Festival, live broadcasts on ABC Radio and 4MBS, and an invitation to the Australian Festival of Chamber Music's pathways program, supported by the Di Jameson Foundation. The quartet has also received masterclasses from the Vision String Quartet and the Esmé String Quartet through Musica Viva. Eric currently studies with Natsuko Yoshimoto.
